What is spam?
The Internet term "spam" does not refer to the famous canned meat product, but
rather the posting of the same message to a large number of newsgroups or, more
familiarly, the sending of an unsolicited email message to many different, unsuspecting
email addresses. The definition of spam has evolved to include all unsolicited email.
In its worst form, spam is sent automatically by
software, called email "bombers," to hundreds or possibly many
thousands of email addresses, filling those inboxes with junk
messages. The people that send the spam are willing to annoy
thousands of people in hopes that they will find a couple of people
who will buy their product.
|
Why is it bad?
Spam is mostly just annoying. Users log on to check their email or read their favorite
newsgroup only to have to wade through all the unwanted messages. However, spam
can have more serious effects. Spam can quickly "clog" email systems, since
spammers send emails to large amounts of email addresses and these messages have
to be stored somewhere. This could mean that you could find it difficult or impossible
to retrieve your email for a certain amount of time.

Does
CrafTech block spam?
By default, yes there is a minimum blocking that occurs
and is as follows:
1. Email addresses & ips that have been previously
submitted to CrafTech & identified as spammers are
automatically removed. Part of this list is compiled
from submissions by CrafTech
members. THIS DOES NOT BLOCK NEW SPAM ADDRESSES.
Most spam addresses are only used once so this provides
little protection.
2. Viruses that have been previously submitted and
identified as viruses are automatically removed. Part
of this list is compiled from submissions by CrafTech
members.
3. Email addresses that have been previously
submitted as NON-SPAM emails are automatically allowed
through. A list also compiled by CrafTech.

Does CrafTech provide additional ways
to block spam?
Yes, we provide spam filters for each individual
email account that the member can control. We
recommend this for all users.

username and password.
2. Go to the OPTIONS menu (click on the options icon)
3. Click on the "spam preferences" link.
4. You will see a list of options with checkboxes next to
them. Check all options that you would like to apply to your
spam filters. They are outlined below.
You must check Enable Spam Blocking in order for any of the other options

What happens once the spam filters are activated?
Once the spam filters are activated, the spam that is being blocked will be
sent to your Inbox.Spam.new.
You should check your Inbox.Spam.new to ensure that no good emails
are accidentally getting put in as spam emails. If you
find mail from a valid email address getting sent to your
spam box then enter those addresses in the "Specifically
Allow These Addresses" box.
